So how can you switch to scuba as a career? Obviously you will need to a lot of enthusiasm for the water and for diving. But still to get a PADI instructors development course, where can you really begin? The first step for you is to take a PADI Divemaster course. There is a minimum criterion that you need to get fulfill to be eligible for the divemasters' course. First and foremost you need to be 18 years of age. You should also have a medical certificate duly signed and attested by a physician certifying your medical fitness. This certificate cannot be more than a year old. There are three other courses that you must have completed. The first of these courses is the advanced open water diver’s course. This course trains and hones your underwater skills. The second course is the rescuer diver’s course which would teach you how to spot a risky situation underwater and how to further ward that situation off. Another pre-requisite for the divemasters’ course is the Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care. This course helps you deal with any kind of injury that might have affected your team. You need to have taken these courses at least 2 years before you take up the Divemasters’ course.

PADI Assistant instructor's Course

Remember those friendly guys on your diving trips who assisted your diving instructor? These guys are the assistant instructors. The second step to the PADI IDC is the PADI assistant instructor course. You must have obviously cleared the PADI divemaster's course to be eligible for this course. Here you not only learn to work on your underwater skills but you get to start teaching. This means that you need to learn a little bit about the underwater education techniques. You will have to assume a limited role as a teacher as well. There are some courses that you get to teach as an assistant instructor like Project AWARE and the like. In other instances you actually get to assist the diving instructors in their teaching endeavors. And icing on the cake, completing this course prepares you for the next level and that is the instructor’s course.

PADI Instructors’ course

The next level is that of an instructor’s course. This is the final step to completing the PADI IDC course. Once you are an instructor you have reached the final stage of your training. You get to lead diving teams, teach novices how to dive and transfer your passion for the seas into them. Remember that based on your skill and performance others’ interest in this activity is dependent. This means that once you are an instructor you are nothing short of a role model. Once you are an instructor you assume a pretty responsible position and will have to inspire awe and respect for yourself and what you do. You will have to be really committed and loyal to this line once you are here at this stage.

So now you know what steps you will have to cross to rise up in the career of being a scuba instructor. Once you have attained the diploma of a scuba instructor, you can learn to be a specialized instructor after which you can hold the post of the master scuba diver trainer. That is what takes to be an IDC staff instructor, Master instructor and finally a course director. The course director is the highest post that you can attain in this world of scuba diving. And you might just be the best in your line by completing some other specialized course like underwater photography or cavern diving. Taking this line up as a career lets you live your dream and experience unlimited freedom.
